ODESSA, Texas (Nexstar)- The Ector County ISD school board heard a report from their Technology Department at a board meeting Tuesday on the advances the department has made amid the pandemic.
ECISD says many aspects of the technology plan were accelerated after schools were closed to mitigate the spread of Coronavirus, particularly in the areas of safety and connectivity.
The District currently operates 1,802 security cameras, 2,873 internet access points, and recently completed instillation of more than 81 miles of fiber optics.
COVID-19 funding was made available to help meet the need for computers and internet within the District.
ECISD spent around 3.7 million dollars on student devices like Chromebooks and iPads, they spent an additional 2.6 million on internet connectivity.
The I.T. Department has also created a sustainability plan that will replace ¼ of student devices each year.
