ECISD looks to add new teachers with ‘Pathways to Teaching’ program

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Odessa Pathways to Teaching is a new program available for people interested in becoming teachers.

This is all in hopes to meet the community’s needs and get more teachers in the classroom. The program is 15 months and at the end of it, candidates will get their certificate to teach.

Ashley Osborne, the ECISD Executive Director for Talent Development said, “One of the things that really sets us apart from other alternative certification programs is that we have devoted talent development coaches that are in the trenches with these folks from day one. We really provide them that training and give them the support that they’ll need to be effective in the classroom.”

During the program candidates will learn targeted test preparation, guided practice, and coaching. They will also get tested in all core subjects such as math, science, language arts, and reading. Applicants who successfully complete the course will join the ECISD staff in 2021 earning a full teacher salary and benefits.

“We really encourage folks that have that bachelor’s degree but have not pursued teaching in the past but think it might be a passion of theirs to look into the program,” said Osborne.
