It was a crowded house at the ECISD administration building as they officially announced the lone finalist for superintendent.
The man for the job? Dr. Scott Muri, the current superintendent at Spring Brook ISD in Houston.
“I want to be a part of a group of people that believe fundamentally that all children deserve greatness and that all children can achieve greatness in their lives. I felt that here,” said Muri.
Muri says that the reason for his interest in the job, the people and the challenges. Ector County sees a large influx of students due to the oil boom, and the major teacher shortage is causing problems on its own. For Muri, the solutions will come as he learns more about the community.
“Today is day one of getting to know the people of Ector County, so our first 100 days on the job is look listen and learn,” says Muri.
It’s a special and challenging time for ECISD, and for the future of the district, the school board thinks they have the right guy.
“This is probably the most important decision the school district has ever made,” said board president Doyle Woodall.
