The Midland Lee and Odessa High softball teams will face off this weekend in the Regional Quarterfinal playoff series.
It will be the third time the two teams have met, since they are both members of District 2-6A.
Lee Head Coach Mandy Davis said that the familiarity is somewhat a double-edged sword. She said her team knows a lot about the Bronchos and vice-versa.
“It says volumes for our district. All season long we’ve been talking about how tough our district actually is and this just goes to show,” David said.
Midland Lee senior Emily Gonzalez said she thinks her team is going to have to play its best softball of the season during the series.
“Every game we played against them it’s always been so competitive, so close,” the senior catcher said.
Lee won its Area series in two games. The Bronchos on the other hand, made a come-behind series win, winning the final two games with walk-offs.
Members of the team said they are riding that confidence wave into this next round.
“The weekend showed a lot of fight, a lot of grit and that’s what I’m most proud of. We never gave up, we kept fighting and that’s what I’m most proud of,” Head Coach Rachel Pena said.
Senior Infielder Skyler Herrera said her team just was not ready to end the season.
“We wanted to keep coming out here to Ratliff, practicing, just being around the team and just keep doing what we love,” Herrera said.
The first game of the series will be this Friday, May 10 at 6 p.m. in Seminole.
