ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Looking to get some stress out? Soon, the Axeholics Hatchet House will be opening in Odessa. It was a college project that turned into a new business for Blake Cryer.
“We like to joke around here and call it lumberjack therapy,” said Cryer. “We also are a lot cheaper than a therapist.”
Like with most pastimes, the Midland resident says practice makes perfect.
“We teach you how to throw the axe and that takes about five to ten minutes. Then, you have an hour and a half to throw as many axes as you can,” said Cryer. It does take a little bit of skills, yes.”
He even gave us some good advice on how to make it stick to the wood.
“You only need one rotation before it hits the wood, that’s the best way to get it to stick,” said Cryer.
The Axeholics Hatchet House officially opens this Saturday, June 8th. When it comes to this so called lumberjack therapy, it is open to people of all ages.
You actually throw hatchets there. There’s also a difference between those and axes. Most describe a hatchet as a light-weight axe.
