ODESSA, Texas (YourBasin) – Unstructured was the game plan for students at Hays STEAM Academy. Instead of the usual school work and reading books, Hays had activities for the students all day that gets them away from school work. Hays had their second annual Play Day.
“We’re playing The Game of Life,” shouted the kids.
According Global School Play Day, the movement started back in 2015 and had over 65,000 children participate on the movements first day. That was just the start of Play Day. Since, the program grew year after year. According to Play Day. over 535,000 people from 72 nations were registered to participate last year.
“It’s so important to their development. How to work together. How to follow a set of rules. How to win and how to lose. Just how to communicate. It’s those every day skills we use every day and we don’t even realize how important they are and how much we need to work on them,” stated Monica Pinson, 5th grade teacher at Hays.
Pinson had students playing board games, card games, Barbies, and other activities for students to participate in. Hays originally scheduled Play Day for February 6th but due to the snow days they moved it to today.
Teachers had team activities for the students in the gym for students such as spoon and egg races and scooter races. After two snow days, the students had an easy day back ending it with fun activities.
