PERMIAN BASIN (YourBasin) – Fix West Texas will have their monthly low cost spay and neuter clinic March 12th through the 15th. The Odessa Police Department plans to let Fix West Texas use their garage. Since their first clinic in January, the organization has grown through donations granting them to purchase their own equipment for clinics.
“When we started, we started by using a veterinarian who borrows a bunch of equipment to come and serve our community. At this point we need to make this more sustainable by buying our own equipment. So we are doing different fundraisers,” stated Karen Patterson, president of Fix West Texas.
Fix West Texas has been selling sponsorship spots on their new t-shirts for $300. They have also been selling t-shirts, car magnets, and donations through PayPal and Venmo. As of February 21st, they are already $1,000 out of $16,500. Four anesthesia machines and two autoclaves is their goal for equipment needs.
For their upcoming clinic in March, Fix West Texas will also provide rattlesnake vaccinations. With West Texas being notorious for rattlesnakes pets will be protected at a low cost of $20.
Though Fix West Texas is preparing for their March clinic, they have already started preparations for their April clinic. Patterson attended the Midland City Council meeting in hopes they can help find a location for their April clinic.
“Christmas In Action believed in us from the beginning and provided us a free space to host the clinic. Then Midland County stepped up and believed in us enough to offer us the Horse Shoe. Now the City of Odessa has stepped forth and offered us part of the police department. So, we are hoping maybe the City of Midland might find a location for our next event so we can host it here in Midland,” said Patterson.
Appointments are still available for their March clinic. You can check out Fix West Texas’s Facebook page or click here.
Update: As of February 26th, Fix West Texas has now raised $3,875 out of their $16,500 goal for equipment. They have seven more t-shirt sponsor spots.
