ODESSA, Texas (YourBasin) – Schools back in session after the winter holidays for Ector County ISD. School officials are gearing up not only for next school year but for the next five.
“We had a great start to our school year. I’m very happy with the things that happen the first semester. So as we think about second semester there’s a lot of work happening in our organization. We are focused on a strategic plan so, thinking big picture where we are heading as a school district. We’ll roll that out to our community in the month of March and so that provides a lot of excitement. That will provide clear direction for our district for the next five years,” stated ECISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri.
The district is already working on the strategic plan and Muri explains how they revisited a study done three years ago about facility needs for ECISD.
“In the year 2017 a facility study was done for ECISD and it inidcated that we had over 600 million dollars worth of facility needs,” said Muri
The five year plan will be in works over the next two months before being presented in March. Muri knows that ECISD is growing every year and hopes to improve the capacity for the district.
“We have a committee that will look at that report and then make some recommendations to our trustees. But, we know that we have significant facility needs. As I’ve been around looking at our facilities, we have some aging facilities. We are also a growing district and so we need some elbow room,” said Muri.
But aging facilities is not the only thing Muri has noticed. Muri says over the first few months of his tenure of being the superintendent, he has learned a lot about the community and students within the district. He, along with teachers, facility, and staff, have to better for the students.
Along with the five year plan includes the new all day program for Pre-K starting in August. Teachers will also benefit from new programs, one of them being Opportunity Cultures. This will give teachers opportunities for new leadership roles and will get compensated accordingly.
“It will help us as an organization and kind of drive our work for the next five years. And yes, there will be new things embedded in that plan because we have to be better for the kids we’re serving and to be better means that we have to be different. So there will be changes in ECISD so that we can improve outcomes for kids,” stated Muri.
Conversations have already started with teachers and leaders within the community about revamp ECISD for the students.
Muri plans to use this new strategic plan to guide ECISD forward to improve the outcomes for kids and indicate the changes.
