ODESSA, Texas (YourBasin) – February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and the Crisis Center of West Texas is hoping to educate families about healthy relationships.
The organization hosted its “We Need to Talk” event Tuesday Evening at Odessa College. The event aims to help teens and parents spot the signs of teen dating violence and how to communicate when it happens.

Hannah Horick, with the Crisis Center, says one in three teenagers experience some form of abuse, whether it is financial, emotional, or physical. Horick says it’s important to create a dialogue to make sure kids stay safe.

Tuesday’s event educated families on abusive relationships and how teens and their parents can identify red flags. Horick says if you believe your loved one is giving signs that they are in an abusive relationship, it is important to keep an open line of communication with them.

The Crisis Center of West Texas aims to end domestic and sexual violence in West Texas. If you need to reach out to the Crisis Center, you can call its hotline 1-866-627-4747.
