Officials have not confirmed the two incidents are the same crash, but due to time an location we have shared the stories together.
UPDATE: MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Just after 2:45 PM, Midland Police and Fire and Rescue were called to the scene of a crash on Interstate 20. The crash involved a semi-truck, a pick-up truck and a garbage truck.
According to the City of Midland, the pick-up truck was traveling westbound in the outside lane at an extremely slow speed due to a traffic jam near the Lamesa overpass. The garbage truck was following behind the pick-up.
The semi-truck was also traveling westbound as it approached the traffic jam. According to the release, the semi-truck tried to change lanes to avoid hitting the garbage truck but hit the left corner of the back of the truck. This caused the garbage truck to strike the pick-up in front of it.
The impact caused the garbage truck to spin sideways and roll onto it’s top. The drivers of the pick-up and garbage truck were seen by officials walking around the area of the accident and appeared to be uninjured, according to officials.
The driver and passenger of the semi-truck were pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – A crash in the westbound lanes of I-20 near mile marker 137 has closed the lanes near SH 158, according to TxDOT.
The crash has also forced the closure of the westbound ramp on FM 715.
Law enforcement is using a drone to survey the crash. They estimate clean up will take 3 hours.
