The Odessa Police Department has named an officer of the month for January.

Cpl. Tyler Rodgers has been selected for the honor this month, along with his K-9 partner Maximus.

A four-year veteran with the OPD, Rodgers is currently assigned to Patrol Division C.

Department officials say Rodgers has distinguished himself within the department during his time in Odessa.

“Corporal Rodgers has shown to have qualities that are a source of pride for his chosen profession and the City of Odessa. He is a self-motivated officer with leadership abilities and an unwavering sense of duty and integrity,” a statement from the department reads. “He quickly progressed and was able to achieve a position as an Odessa Police Department K-9 Handler where he has excelled while partnered with his K-9 Maximus.”
