Convicted sex offender charged with illegal re-entry

BREWSTER COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) US Border Patrol agents, along with Brewster County Deputies located and arrested a convicted sex offender near the border Monday.

Officials say the investigation began when 11 immigrants were location hiding in a culvert off of Highway 90 in Brewster County.

Among the 11 was 44-year-old Simon Gonzalez Munoz, of Mexico, who had been convicted of indecency with a child and aggravated sexual assault of a child back in 2003, according to a release.

Border Patrol officials say Munoz was deported in 2009.

He has since been arrested and charged with illegal re-entry.

Our partnership with the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office along with our agents’ vigilance and hard work led to the successful apprehension of this individual.  This is a clear reminder of the criminal element that our agents regularly encounter as they keep our communities safe, Patrol Agent in Charge of the Alpine Station Roberto Dominguez said.
