Compass parent worries school isn’t adhering to safety protocols

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – One Compass Academy parent is still uneasy after she says the school is not adhering to their ‘Strong Start’ guidelines.

Compass Academy saying they have no comment at this time.

“Obviously we could go somewhere else but we chose to go back to Compass with the thought that they were going to follow their guidelines and they’re not,” said Haley Higginbotham, a Compass Academy mom.

She was upset parents weren’t given an online learning option for their students but she was reassured the school would be taking the proper safety measures.

On page 11 of the ‘Strong Start’ handbook, it says that students will bring their own meals and will be spaced throughout the gymnasium to create distance between students.

“I’ve asked my students and a student that I take home every day from school if they have even been told to space out or sit every other seat and they are not. They have never even been told to do anything remotely close to that, it’s a huge concern,” said Higginbotham.

She says the school is not responding to her concerns or her suggestions for improvement.

According to the mom, “kindergarten through second are eating in their classroom why can’t the older students be afforded the same opportunity. It is obviously a more logical safer choice there are only 25 students we have to worry about them coming into contact versus 320 at a time.”
