Midland County Commissioners are set to discuss the sheriff’s post again next week.
This comes after the sudden and unexpected death of beloved Sheriff Gary Painter.
Commissioners met last week in a special session to appoint a new sheriff until an election could be held.
However, a new sheriff was not appointed and instead, commissioners voted for Chief Deputy Rory McKinney to handle the duties of the sheriff.
Commissioners emphasized that McKinney would not be appointed sheriff but would assume the responsibilities.
On the agenda Monday is an item to appoint Richard Gillette to fill the office and another to take action on a bond for Sheriff or Chief Deputy.
Commissioners are set to meet at 9 a.m. Monday morning.
