“Chocolate Decadence” event will benefit the Aphasia Center

Midland, TEXAS (Big 2) – Members of The Aphasia Center of West Texas are hosting an event called “Chocolate Decadence” to benefit the center. The virtual event is Friday, February 12th and as Marketing and Development Director Ashley McCalpin explains, it’s a delicious and easy way to help support The Aphasia Center. The idea to give people the feel of a live event. Guests reserve a party pack, and watch an online video as part of the ambiance.

“There’s nothing live to tune into for the event. We have an event video with cake baking demonstrations, and martini making from the Aphasia Center members, an interview with a couple that was a member of the Aphasia Center and some other really fun highlights. So you can kind of party at your own pace, but you do get your party pack the day of the event,” says Aphasia Center Marketing and Development Director Ashley McCalpin.

Party packs are catered to how many guests you’d like to host for the event. For 2 people, it includes:

  • wine
  • glasses
  • a decanter
  • a truffle tasting kit
  • wine coasters
  • cocktail napkins

” We kind of build on that 2 person party pack. We go up to 4, then 8, and then our highest is party pack for 10 and that one includes dessert box, charcuterie, wine, a private waitstaff, catered dinner, and a custom tablescape, too,” says McCalpin.

Most of the items in the party packs are from local businesses.

‘We have an online auction with some awesome packages. We’re really focusing on promoting local vendors and local experiences this year as part of the Buy the Basin initiative. So all of our vendors for Chocolate Decadence are local between Midland and Odessa, and a lot of our auction packages are as well,” says McCalpin.

McCalpin explains that the event normally raises up to 40 percent of their annual operating budget, so it’s a really important fundraiser for their organization. Members of the Aphasia Center say they want to make it as easy as possible to take part.

” You would order your party pack either by calling the Aphasia Center or going online to our online form on our website event page and that places your order for your party pack. Then on February 12th, the day of the event, we will either deliver your party pack to you, or you can come to the Aphasia Center and pick it up,” says McCalpin.

Reservations must be made by February 1st.
