Centers Solutions – COVID EDITION: Connecting With Nature

(Big 2/Fox 24) – According to a study published by Frontiers in Psychology, just 20 minutes of contact with nature will lower stress levels.

Researchers at the University of Kansas also found that the more time outdoors and less time with electronics can increase your problem-solving skills and improve creative abilities.

Kristi Edwards, an executive director for Centers for Children and Families, encourages everyone to spend an hour everyday outdoors or at least incorporating a minimum of 20 minutes with nature into your everyday routine.

“Whenever you are outside, it’s so easy to connect with your senses, and that’s what makes them grow and expand. You don’t want the only sound that you hear is your computer turning on, or the TV or the air conditioner coming on. You want to hear everything, you want to taste everything, you want to feel everything and outside is the perfect place to connect all those things. It’s what you see, what you hear, what you taste and what you smell all right there for you.”

Kristi Edwards, Executive Director, Centers for Children & Families
