MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2 / Fox 24) – Centennial Park in downtown Midland has a variety of different amenities for the community, from a dog park to cafe tables, even splash pads to have in the sun. Stephanie Martin, Executive director of the park said safety measures have also been
put in place to keep everyone healthy.
“Everything is at a six foot distance apart from our table and chairs, so we’re trying to be very conscientious about the social distancing as well as the hand sanitizing across the park,” Martin said. “We’re very thankful to be opening the park to the community and allow Midland to come and enjoy the park.”
Through out the day you can expect children rolling down the park hill or people playing different sports activities through out the park’s four acres. Many Midlanders who came out to Centennial Park said they enjoy the wide space to do a variety of activities, but there’s something else about this park they said makes it unique.
“Just the green grass,” said Stephen Fulton, a Midland park goer. “No parks around here have green grass and you’ve got a little bit of shade too.”
Park goers also enjoy the constant shade provided by Midland’s surrounding sky scrapers. Midlanders like Christina Ochoa believe Centennial Park is playing a key role in the city’s development.
“It matures allot and it’s getting a little fancier you can say,” Ochoa said. ” We’re getting a little more mature in our level of hanging out and stuff like that, but yeah it’s great.”
And while Centennial Park is brand new to the public Midlanders like Daniel Stevens and his kids plan to come back quite often.
We have some good parks in our community but this is defiantly the next level,” Stevens said. ” We’re so excited to be a part of it.”
If you would like visit Centennial Park, it is open seven days a week from 8 A.M to 10 P.M.
