MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – After Mary Griffith presented her bronze artwork of Gary Painter to Midland County Commissioners, the artwork is finally hung in the sheriff’s office. Griffith began crafting the artwork around June last year, gathering pictures of Painter and began sculpting the artwork.
“It was about June. It was a little while after he had passed away,” says Griffith.
After finishing the artwork she had it sent to a foundry where they bronzed the piece.
“Well my idea was to do it because Mr. Painter had given so many years to the county and also to this area of Texas. Actually he was pretty well known all over the place and I just had that feeling I had to do something like that,” says Griffith.
Griffith says the foundry process took a few months but she had fun sculpting the artwork.
