Black business leader encourages the community to continue the conversation

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Local business owner and motivational speaker Tiki Davis says on the heels of a peaceful protest Wednesday he feels a step in the right direction was made in West Texas.

“West Texas is different than any other place because we kind of rally together. It was a peaceful protest and Gaven Norris did a great job and all of the speakers, the police department, Brooks Landgraf, all these guys pulled together and made sure that every voice was heard out there last night.”

Davis, who also serves as a board member on the Odessa Black Chamber of Commerce, said now it’s important to continue supporting one another and coming together for a good cause.

“Basically what we want to do is go support their businesses, because we aren’t a charity, we’re just doing business just like everybody else so if you want to do black business we appreciate it. We’re in a pandemic that’s one, two oil prices, and three the social injustice that we’re dealing with.”

He also wants to encourage West Texans to keep having these conversations and understand why they are protesting.

“The main focus should be educating and we should be proactive versus retroactive,” he said.
