A bill that aims to protect pregnant woman has passed in the Senate.

House Bill 902 was filed in early February and would make it a 3rd degree felony for an assault on a pregnant woman “if the actor knew or should have known the woman was pregnant at the time of the assault,” the legislation reads.

“I’m pleased to report that my pro-life bill (HB 902) – to increase the penalty for assaulting a pregnant woman – had been passed out of committee,” Landgraf said back in March when it was passed out of committee.

The bill was passed through the Senate on Monday. HB 902 has already made it through the House and will now head to Gov. Greg Abbott’s office.
