Big Spring City Council votes 6-0 on Mayor Recall

BIG SPRING, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – The Big Spring City Council voted unanimously 6-0 on a recall of Mayor Shannon Thomason. One council member was absent from Thursday’s meeting. Thomason said he expected today’s result; if it wasn’t voted for, it left the city vulnerable for litigation.

The petition was started by a citizen of Big Spring named Linda Burchett. That petition garnered over 770 valid signatures. Mayor Thomason is being accused of dereliction of duty and threatening and cussing at city personnel. He denies the allegations in an open letter on his Facebook.

“I said What the hell in an email when I couldn’t get a straight answer out of the city attorney … that’s trying to make it sound like I physically threatened If they are not doing their jobs? That I might have a discussion with them about”

Two City Council members are also up for recall. Thomason is also seeking legal action through the Texas Rangers about the process of this petition being certified. The special election will be on November 3rd.
