BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK (Nexstar)- The Chisos Basin is set to reopen Friday as the South Rim Fire is 80% contained and is no longer deemed a threat to developed areas.
Park officials say camping, lodging and many trails and areas will reopen including the Window, Window View, Lost Mine, Basin Loop, Laguna Meadow, Blue Creek and Dodson areas.
The Pinnacles, Boot Canyon, South Rim, East Rim, Juniper Canyon and Colima areas will remain closed.
Backpacking campsites along the Laguna Meadows and Blue Creek Trails will reopen on April 26. Backcountry Permits are required and may be obtained online here.
