MIDLAND, Texas (Nexstar) – A man has died from injuries caused by a Midland drive-by shooting.

Midland Police say 53-year-old Gerardo Ramirez died Tuesday. He was shot March 13th on S. Ft. Worth Street. It happened moments after leaving a house with another person.

The suspect, who is still unknown, fired multiple shots.

Gerardo’s best friend, Erica, says he was at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

“She couldn’t believe it. He doesn’t deserve this,” Erica’s friend said. “She’s shattered. She’s been doing the same thing she’s doing now, crying.”

Erica wants people to know, the 53-year-old had no enemies.

“He was a happy person, a humble person. He would always help people that would need him.”

Erica wants Gerardo to be remembered by what she loved most.

“His smile… he was always joking around. He was never mad or angry or nothing. He was always happy.”
