Bear sightings in Alpine, how to keep them from coming to your home

News

ALPINE, Texas (Nexstar)- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens and District Biologists have received reports of two black bears in the communities south of Alpine.

Homeowners in north Double Diamond have reported the bears are eating pet food that has been left out.

TPWD is asking the Alpine community to help reduce the potential for human bear conflicts at home by:

  • Make sure garbage and trash is secure and in accessible, put trash out the morning of pickup, never the night before.
  • Take bird feeders down, especially at night.
  • Keep pet or livestock food inside, do not leave food bowls out overnight.
  • Clean BBQ grills and outdoor kitchens immediately after use.
  • Keep smaller livestock, such as sheep, goats and chickens securely penned at night.
