Basin Bites Cinco de Mayo: La Margarita

ODESSA, Texas (ABC Big 2 / FOX 24) – On any given day you’ll find La Margarita’s tables filled with hungry customers.

“I come here at least three times a week,” said David Barrientes.

“You like to come here because you know there’s going to be a lot of people,” said Carol Uranga.

But it’s not just the homemade food that keeps customers coming back.

“It’s her, the person, she’s such a hard worker and she pays attention to everybody coming in,” Uranga said.

That person is Trina Moralez. She opened La Margarita over 28 years ago and has been in the kitchen cooking for her customers ever since.

” It’s the customers, I have real good customers, I love to cook and I love to see the people just sitting with good food.” Moralez said.

But Moralez doesn’t just treat her customers like family, but also her staff who all have had long tenures.

“23 years, 20, 15, and I have two people that are retired, 26 years,” Moralez said.

And Moralez’s customers don’t only love her for her food but for her service to the community.

“She gives so much to the community to different events, I mean if you have a funeral she’s there for everybody,” Uranga said.

Besides Moralez’s hospitality people always come back for a good meal.

“It’s home. It’s homestyle food just like my mom use to make. Trina does a real good job,” Barrientes said.

As for Moralez, she doesn’t plan on putting up her apron any time soon.

“I’m not gonna go anywhere I’m just going to live here,” Moralez said.

If you would like to visit Trina Moralez and her staff at La Margarita, they are located at 1301 South Grant Ave. in Odessa.
