Basin Bites Cinco de Mayo Edition: Monterrey Cocina Mexicana

News

MIDLAND, Tx (ABC Big 2/Fox 24) – Since 1957, Monterrey in Midland has been offering authentic mexican cuisine.

The restaurant was previously named Jorge’s before reverting back to the original, Monterrey. Owner Jesse Lopez said the restaurant still uses the same recipe book from the original Monterrey.

“Just the basic Mexican food is what we sell more than anything. Sometimes the fajitas sell more than others, but you know, the traditional Mexican food is what we sell the most. We are probably the only ones in town that still do a grilled taco and that sells so much,” Lopez said.

Monterrey makes almost everything from scratch, including its drinks.

“We do have a great margarita. We also have a skinny margarita. All of our ingredients are 100 percent homemade. We don’t buy anything at the store,” Lopez said.

And the family-owned business is ready to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Monterrey will be offering $2 imports, $3 micheladas and free meals for children.
