ODESSA, TEXAS (Big 2/ Fox 24)- It’s been seven months since the mass shooting here in the Permian Basin and many are still recovering. Wednesday night, OPD recognized officers for their bravery on August 31 during their Awards and Promotions Ceremony.
The Odessa Police department also taking time to recognize those who have served in the military, are being promoted, and have been with the department for more than five years.
Chief Michael Gerke says “the men and women that work for this department were still able to function and stay able to do their job and even go above and beyond what is expected of them. Horrific event and still you reach out and you feel for those families of those victims involved but I think it’s also important to recognize those officers that absolutely did their job.”
