As of 4 p.m. Friday, the deadline to apply for head coach and athletic director at Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD has officially passed.

The district now has more than 70 applications to sort through, according to Superintendent of Schools Jim Haley.

He says about between 60-65 of those applications came in through links on their website, while another dozen came in via email.

A nine-person committee will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday to begin the vetting and ranking process of the applications.

The district will then contact all of the applicants on Thursday to let them know if they will be interviewed or not.

Haley says formal interviews will be held Jan. 9 and 10.

The district hopes to have a final decision made by Jan. 18’s school board meeting where the finalist will be approved.

Outgoing head coach/athletic director Chris Henson will not be a part of the hiring or interviewing process, Haley also said.

Henson announced earlier this year his decision to step down as head coach/athletic director and become the principal of Pecos High School.
