Andrews Undefeated on First Day of State 7-on-7


The Andrews Mustangs led all Permian Basin teams on the first day of State 7-on-7.

Three local teams qualified for the Division II State Tournament which started on Thursday.

Andrews finished 3-0 in pool playing picking up wins over East Bernard, Salado and Crandall on the day. The Mustangs will play Sonora at 9 a.m. in the first round of the championship bracket on Friday.

Alpine also made the championship bracket going 2-1 in pool play with wins over Pleasanton and Anna. The Bucks fell to Fairfield 40-6. Alpine will play Giddings at 9 a.m. Friday first round of championship-bracket play.

Pecos went 2-1 on the first day falling to the consolation bracket. The Eagles lost to Pleasant Grove and El Campo, but also picked up a win over Hidalgo.

Pecos will play Sweeny first round of the consolation bracket on Friday.
