A Year After an Odessa Doctor was Murdered a Former Patient Says She Remembers His Caring Spirit

Saturday marked one year since 53-year-old longtime Odessa doctor Suresh Gadasalli was shot to death at his downtown office The Healthy Heart Center.

Law enforcement agencies blocked off the downtown area as they searched for an active gunman, who was later also found dead.

Odessa Police say 60 year old Ayyasamy Thangam, a patient and business partner shot Gadasalli multiple times.

On the anniversary of his death Local 2’s Lupe Zapata sat down with an Odessa woman who was under his care when he died.

“He had the best bedside manners that I had ever seen from a doctor.” says Kim Bishop who was a patient of his for more than three years. She says she will never forget his caring spirit and tragic death.

His once busy office parking lot now vacant and for sale.

“He had patients of all ages there seeing him and even in the back where they did the other tests it was always busy i had never seen the parking lot empty.” says Bishop.

Kim tells me she has heart problems and was sure he would help.

“He would tell you he was going try and find your problem and unfortunately for me he tried but he couldn’t figure it out and then this happened.”

Doctor Gadasalli performed the world’s first Simultaneous Hybrid Revascularization, and he was nominated as “Super Doctor” by Texas Monthly Magazine in 2008.
