Bright lights and sounds of laughter… You may have seen all the excitement over the weekend at the Ector County Coliseum.
Whether it is for the mouthwatering food, or for the thrill of an adrenaline rush, residents say Fiesta West Texas has them coming back every year. “It’s just something new always, whether it be food or a ride we haven’t seen before,” said Olga Porras.
And for resident, Nidia Ortiz and her family, it has been a family tradition for 10 years. “We always buy our tickets in advance. We like to bring our parents, the kids, the family, cousins… Everybody just tries to come with us.”
Whether you are young or old, Porras says it is the perfect family outing. “We like the calm, you know, just family-friendly environment. I feel like they’re safe. I don’t feel like I have to be right next to them every second the time we’re here. It’s just a beautiful environment.”
While many stopped by to enjoy live music, a special set of sisters were in the audience this year. The Brieto sisters say Fiesta has always been a rare opportunity to see their grandfather perform.
“I get sad when I don’t get to see my grandpa sing, because sometimes he sings somewhere like to the bars where we can’t go. So we usually come here everytime to hear him sing.”
