ODESSA, Texas (ABC Big 2/ FOX 24) – A teenage boy and his cousin are recovering tonight in the hospital after a head-on crash police say was caused by a drunk driver.

14-year-old Porter Goodwin was flown to a Lubbock hospital Friday night seriously injured. His 21 year-old cousin is currently at Medical Center Hospital in critical condition.

Porter was riding in car with his cousin when another driver hit their car head-on, it happened along Faudree Rd. in Odessa last Friday night.

“He’s got damage to both legs, he’s got damage to both arms, ” said Joshua Wimberley, Porter’s father. “If it was just the arms he could walk it off, if it was just the legs he would be on crutches ,he doesn’t even have that option.”

“We threw our stuff together and rushed down to the hospital. We actually had to pass the accident scene in order to get to where we’re going,” Wimberley said.

Odessa Police will only say alcohol was a factor in this crash, but so far no charges have been filed.

” You know drunk driving it’s just not worth, there’s so many alternatives you know call a friend, call an Uber, it’s just not worth the risk,” said Cpl Steve Lesueur with the Odessa Police Department.

Porters has gone through multiple surgeries since the crash. Wimberly said his son hasn’t been thinking about himself during the tough ordeal.

“When he came out of surgery his first question was ‘how’s my cousin,” Wimberley said. “He wanted to know what was going on, you know. He was checking on everybody else before he even put a thought of consideration to himself.”

While it’s difficult right now, Wimberley hopes something good will come out of this.

“If anything beneficial comes out of this, it’s that somebody else doesn’t make this mistake and doesn’t take these kind of things away from my son and my nephew.”

Wimberley has started an anti drinking and driving campaign called #GetARide. He’s also launched a Go Fund Me page for Porter.
