MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2) – A Midland woman seems like a superhero. The Basin woman juggles a family, two careers and makes time to give back to her community. She’s this week’s “Remarkable Woman.”
“We were tired of corporate life in that I mean just being an employee, being a number,” said Abney.
She’s the Vice President of West Texas Patriot Compression Services in Midland.
“I know what she puts into everything she does in life and it’s 100 percent, 100 percent of the time,” said Weldon Abney, Heather’s husband. She started the company with her husband of 27 years.
“We wanted to make sure our daddy’s got to be at home with their kids when they needed to be,” said Abney. “Corporate world you don’t get that, corporate world it’s about the bottom dollar.”
She’s also a registered nurse.
“Just seeing her and all of the frontline workers in action is amazing to me, always putting others before themselves without a thought in the world about it,” said Weldon Abney.
She’s a mother of three sons and she has three grandchildren. She’s working on a Master’s Degree right now in Nursing and she just made the dean’s list.
“I tell everybody all the time, she’s an angel amongst me,” said Weldon Abney. She also finds time to make a difference by going on medical mission trips.
“One day at a time is all I can tell you. As hard as it is, leave the naysayers behind,” said Abney.
“She’s the rock of our family. Always has been, always will be,” said Weldon Abney.
“Don’t stop pushing, don’t stop dreaming. If you want something and you work hard enough, you can do it,” said Abney.
Abney admits it hasn’t always been easy. She was a teen mom and had her first child at 17-years-old.
She credits her parents for a strong work ethic.
