local news

ODESSA, TEXAS (BIG 2 NEWS/FOX 24 NEWS) – Odessa Police Department will be cracking down on large hauls in the city. Through city ordinance, most commercial vehicles are only allowed to travel on Interstate 20 or Loop 338. Corporal Steve Lesueur, with the Odessa Police Department, says this city ordinance is designed to keep our roads safe.

Specifications on the trucks in violation in city limits includes:

  • Trucks that have a manufacturer’s gross weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds.
  • Are a single unit vehicle with tandem axles
  • Are truck-tractor/semitrailer combinations.

Trucks are only allowed to drive in the city if they’re making a delivery or pick-up within city limits.  However, drivers must travel the most direct route to get to their destination.
