ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/ Fox 24) – Wearing a mask in public has become the new norm. The Ellen Noel Art Museum wants to take part in encouraging this new practice to the community.
” We wanted to come up with a fun way to help promote wearing a mask around,” museum marketing manager Ashley Flores said. ” I mean it’s something that we are not used to doing, we’re not used to grabbing our mask before we walk out the door.So we though it would be a fun idea to get everyone involved by creating a poster. “
The #MaskUpOdessa contest is calling on local artists to design a poster that can be displayed around the city.
Flores says the museum hopes this contest will not only encourage people to wear a mask, but also to provide an escape from the pandemic.
“We do think that seeing art right now during this time definitely help your stress levels and just keeps you calm,” Flores said.
The museum also hopes this contest will show respect and appreciation for our local heroes.
“It’s also to saying a thank you to our local health care workers who are working hard right now as they help fight COVID-19,” Flores said. ” We just want this contest to use art as your outlet right now.”
Flores hopes the winning poster will provide inspiration for Odessans during these challenging times.
“Something fun that just reminds you that we’re all in this together,” Flores said. ” And the Permian Basin is stronger together.”
The winning poster will be printed and distributed to local businesses free of charge.
If you are interested in submitting a poster, go to Ellen Noel Art Museum website .
