Lip sinc battle by Odessa Arts; Grand prize is a $500 shopping spree

local news

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Odessa Arts has a new contest happening until September 7 and the grand prize is a $500 shopping spree to the Music City Mall. All you have to do is submit your best lip sinc video to Odessa Arts’ website and then the public will decide who wins!

Randy Ham, the Executive Director of Odessa Arts, says the pandemic has made regular fundraising events a challenge so the organization decided to involve the community in a fun and safe way by doing a virtual fundraiser. Anyone is allowed to submit an entry at no cost, but no actual singing is allowed, and you have until September 7 at midnight. Every submission will then be posted for the public to vote on for the small price of $1 per vote. The winning submission will receive the $500 shopping spree to the mall while the 2nd place winner will get $200 and the 3rd highest wins $100. You can find more information and submit your entry here.

The 6th Annual Recycle Fashion Show sponsored by Odessa Arts and Keep Odessa Beautiful is also coming up but because of the pandemic, things will look a little different for this event as well. This year, the entire program will be filmed at the Ector Theatre and then aired on Basin PBS. The entry period is currently open for designers to submit their work and you can find more information as well as the application here. The deadline for those submissions is Friday, October 16.

The anniversary of the Basin mass shooting is also coming up and agencies around Odessa are working on a number of tributes to mark the day and remember the victims. During a Basin PBS special airing on August 31 at 7:00 pm, Odessa Arts will be announcing the selected artist and designer for the 8/31 memorial art piece that will be installed in Memorial Garden Park. Stay tuned for more from Randy Ham about that piece and the chosen artist after that announcement.
