Don’t forget these tips to return/exchange gifts

local news

Odessa, TEXAS (Big 2/Fox 24) – Many people are heading to stores to return or exchange holiday gifts. Heather Massey from the Better Business Bureau explains how you can keep track of those holiday transactions and have the best chance of successfully returning or exchanging items. Massey explains that there will probably be a rise in holiday returns since there were a lot of online orders for gifts last year, and she says that online orders are usually returned more than gifts bought in stores. Some of the best ways to ensure a smooth transaction for any gift returns are to:

  • Know the store’s return policy, especially since many retailers adjust their policies around the holidays
  • Understand the online returns and check out how the policies may be different for online orders
  • Be sure to get warranty details on big items you buy like home appliances
  • Keep your receipt, or ask the gift giver for the gift or original receipt
  • Return sooner than later, most policies give you a 30 day window to make the exchange or get your money back
