GARDENDALE, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – A local non-profit dedicated to helping our furry friends here in West Texas is spreading their roots with a new facility in Gardendale and they need the public’s help.
“Dog Rescue R Us” started in March of 2019 and has saved 9 thousand dogs in the area so far. The rescue saves animals from local shelters and transports them to sister rescues up North to find “furever” homes. According to the founder, Shawn Blair, they work with similar organizations in 8 different states as well as Canada and have almost turned a number of local shelters into “no-kill” facilities.
One major problem they have locally is recruiting foster volunteers which is why the new facility will make a big impact on their mission. The organization is asking for donations to complete construction and there has been an incredible response so far. Gardendale Kennels donated the land for the facility and some local Boy Scouts built the fence for their Eagle Scout project.
“Dog Rescue R Us” has a go-fund-me set up on their Facebook page if you would like to keep track of the facility’s progress or get involved.
