MIDLAND, Texas (FOX 24) – An emotional story of a mother and son who started a Basin business almost two decades ago. They say it’s meant to pay tribute to a loved one.

“All of his hard work his whole life was what enabled us to bring this dream to life,” said Jeremy Clifton, SGO Designer Glass Owner.

It’s still difficult for Jeremy Clifton to talk about his father who passed away in 2001.

“He was gone way too soon,” said Jeremy Clifton.

“He always wanted to be in business for himself and he was never able too. So, for my boys to be able to do that was a way to honor him,” said Jane Clifton, SGO Designer Glass Owner and Jeremy’s mom.

“He was incredible and he would always try to help people,” said Jeremy Clifton.

For 18 years, the Clifton family has owned SGO Designer Glass. The Midland Company creates architectural decorative glass and that creativity seems to run in the family.

“I had grown up with art in my home. Both my parents were artistic,” said Jane Clifton.

One of the Clifton’s biggest projects is a stunning staircase at a Midland home.

“It’s probably the only one in the world like it,” said Jeremy Clifton.

It’s almost finished and has taken about two and a half years.

“We always try to push ourselves and take on jobs that are risky,” said Jeremy Clifton.

The cost of this job is around $215,000.

“It really validates all of your hard work,” said Jeremy Clifton.

“Just trust the Lord and just keep on working,” said Jane Clifton. “Don’t give up because like it says in the bible, it’s darkest just before the dawn.”

Jane’s confident her husband is looking down from heaven and proud of what they’ve accomplished.

“Oh, I think he’d be very happy,” said Jane Clifton.

Here’s something else that may inspire you. Prior to this, Jane was a homemaker with really no work experience. She says starting this business also helped get her through that difficult time of losing her husband.
