ODESSA, Texas (FOX 24/ABC Big 2) – The Texas Attorney General now voicing his opinion on the local sales tax issue.

Attorney General Ken Paxton ruled in favor of Ector County earlier this week.

The sales tax issue is between the city of Odessa and Ector County. Businesses annexed receive city services.

However, their sales tax continues to go to Ector County. City officials believe they should receive that sales tax.

We have reaction from both sides.

Sheriff Mike Griffis, Ector County Sheriff’s Office

“We can get a lot more things done together as a partner instead of butting heads,” said Sheriff Mike Griffis, Ector County Sheriff’s Office.

Tom Sprawls, Odessa Council Member

“There was a misconception about the city trying to take the county’s sales tax,” said Tom Sprawls, Odessa Council Member. “We always need to work together, we always need to do that.”

In order for a business to be annexed into the city, it must be requested from that business.
