A bright streak in the sky and the sounds of a loud explosion lead to 40 reports of a fireball seen streaking across Texas Sunday night, according to the American Meteor Society.

Video captured by a Sandia All Sky Camera in Hawley, Texas show the fireball fly over north-west texas around 8:55 PM.

AMS received reports from witnesses in several states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Kansas.

One witness out of Abilene claims to have thought it was “a burning plane”.

The Snyder Volunteer Fire Department says they received several tips from residents claiming to have heard a large explosion around the time fireball was spotted.
