MIDLAND, Texas (YourBasin) – Officials in the basin are making it their mission to curb the Coronavirus. Local entities in the Tall City met up Wednesday night for a roundtable discussion ordered by Midland Mayor, Patrick Payton. The purpose of Wednesday’s meeting was to discuss readiness and preparedness if the virus makes its way to West Texas.

Officials say right now, Midland is not at high-risk for an outbreak of the virus, but local entities are taking measures to make sure residents stay safe and healthy. Midland Mayor Patrick Payton says the best way to prevent the spread of the virus is to stay home if you are sick.

If you believe you are experiencing symptoms related to Coronavirus, you are urged to contact your primary physician and avoid leaving your home. It was also recommended that if you do not have a physician, you can contact 68-nurse. Local health professionals will be answering calls to help you get the resources you need.

Since the virus is easily transmitted, officials recommend you wash your hands frequently and cover your cough or sneeze.
