ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/FOX 24) – “Be Our Change” is our positive, inspirational segment. We’re highlighting a local attorney who continues to go above and beyond to help others.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner, but the holiday won’t be festive for everyone.
Israel Medina is a well-known attorney in the Permian Basin and even owns his own law firm.
“I was born and raised here, and we didn’t have much growing up,” said Medina.
But life hasn’t always been easy. “I know what it was like to come back after the Christmas break and all the kids are talking about what they got for Christmas,” said Medina.
It’s fueled his passion for giving back. “There’s a great need in Odessa, more than what most people think,” said Medina.
Soon, he will be giving away 500 turkeys to families in need. “For me, I think that’s the greatest memory, at least for the holidays is the family get together and cooking.”
That’s only part of what Medina does to give back. Each year, he gives away hundreds of backpacks along with school supplies to make sure kids have their essentials.
The Odessa resident also works to make sure local families in need have a nice Christmas as well.
“I think any little bit helps, even if you think like me, that it’s not enough sometimes,” said Medina.
The fourth annual turkey giveaway will take place on November 20th at 10 am. Five hundred turkeys will be given out for free at 2651 Kermit Highway in Odessa.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, it will be a drive-up event. If you know someone in need, let them know.
