Pecos Coach Chris Henson Becoming School's Principal

PECOS, TX (Local 2/Fox 24) - Pecos will starts its search for a new head football coach according to coach Chris Henson who will move to a different role.

Henson will become the principal at Pecos high school. He said the school will have an interim principal until January 8.

Henson coached at Pecos for 12 seasons. His son Bubba Henson just finished up a career as the school's four-year starting quarterback.

However, Superintendent Jim Haley said the search to fill the coaching vacancy officially began Monday.

Haley says he will meet with district officials on Thursday to outline the characteristics they will seek in the new head football coach and athletic director.

Currently, the superintendent says they have a committee model for hires, which has been successful, and they will use the same model in the search.

Finally, Haley says the ideal candidate will be someone who strives for success on the field as well as in the community and someone who is looking to make West Texas their long term home.
