John Peterson Out as Stanton Football Coach

ODESSA, TX (Local 2/Fox 24) - Coach John Peterson confirmed to Local 2/Fox 24 Wednesday that he is resigning as the head football coach at Stanton High School.

Peterson coached nine seasons for the Buffaloes. Stanton finished the 2017 season at 2-9 overall. The Buffaloes had a losing record the last four seasons.

UPDATE:

Superintendent Merl Brandon confirmed the district's search for a new coach has already started. The district posted the job on Tuesday, January 9, and will accept applications until January 31.

According to Brandon, officials will do two round of interviews in the February and hope to present a candidate to the school board for approval on March 5.

Brandon said his "educated guess" is he is expecting around 50-70 applicants and giving 6-10 candidates interviews.
