Special Olympics Texas Holds Bowling Competition in Odessa

Athletes were competing to qualify for state level competitions

ODESSA, Texas (Local 2/Fox 24) - An ordinary Odessa bowling ally hosted some extraordinary athletes Saturday.

Competitors from all over Texas joined together at Diamond Lanes, to compete in the local competition.

Some will go on to compete at the state level in January.

Head Coach for the Midland team,Teresa Palmer, says her daughter is the main reason she's involved.

"She's one of our athletes and she loves bowling," Palmer said. "We do swimming and other activities and it's to get her out to enjoy and fellowship with other athletes."

The program does offer an environment for friendships to bloom, but the athletes are just as competitive as they are friendly, according S-O-T-X director Norm Arias.

"Our Athletes do a lot more and as you saw through our bowling today, our athletes come out and they're just as competitive as a regular athlete," Arias said.
