Sheriff Deputies Shoot And Tase Man Several Times After He Attacked Them

A deputy responded to a scene of a naked man running through traffic

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas (Local 2/FOX 24) - Midland County Sheriff Deputies shot and tased a man multiple times before they were able to subdue him after the man attacked deputies, according to Sheriff Gary Painter.

The report states authorities received multiple calls around 4:50 a.m. about a man trying to get into vehicles at the Kent Store near FM 1788 and West Highway 158.

Later on, another call said that a naked man in a cowboy hat was going in and out of traffic trying to get into vehicles about 2 miles East of the Kent Store.

According to Painter, a Midland County Deputy arrived on the scene and tried stopping the man.

Painter says the "highly aggressive" man then attacked and knocked down the deputy and tried driving off in the deputy's car.

After an unsuccessful attempt at stealing the car, the deputy used his taser and began to defend himself.

A second deputy arrived on the scene and used his taser with no avail, according to Painter.

That's when Painter says the man attacked the second deputy, so that deputy shot the man multiple times.

However, the report says the man continued to evade deputies and Midland Police Officers, that arrived on the scene, by climbing on top of a flatbed semi-trailer.

Painter says authorities were finally able to apprehend the man, who was later transported and taken into surgery at Midland Memorial Hospital.

The man's identity is unknown, and the Midland County Sheriff's Office is assisting the Texas Rangers in the investigation.
