Rare and Expensive Dog Breed Goes Missing While in Midland for West Texas Kennel Club Dog Show

MIDLAND, Texas - (Local 2/Fox 24) - A dog owner's worst nightmare, seeing your furry friend run away into the pitch-black night.

Unfortunately, that's what happened to dog handler Patty Schneider, the first time in 30 years she's lost one.

"I cried until I went to sleep last night," Schneider said. "I drove and drove and drove looking for her, calling her name. I'm upset and I'd like to have her back."

Schneider's from Albuquerque and in Midland this weekend competing with her three rare breed, Mexican Hairless Xolo dogs, in the West Texas Kennel Club Dog Show at the Horseshoe Arena.

Thursday night when taking one of them out for a walk, the dog tripped her, she fell, let go of the leash and the dog ran away.

"I looked last night until 10 or 11 o'clock, just driving up and down, because it's near the busy roads, looking on the roads for her," said Schneider.

The dog, Izzy, is only nine-months-old and is worth thousands of dollars.

Schneider said she's lucky to have friend of nearly a decade, Steven Calley of Midland, who has a dog just like hers and who's helping her find her missing fur baby.

"My heart goes out to anybody who loses a dog because of the fear the dog could either be run over or not be found and something serious could happen to the animal," said Calley.

Calley said he's not the only one trying to help Schneider find her missing dog, as pretty much everybody at the dog show has pitched in, some way or another.

"It just shows you what a warm community we've got and what great friends," Calley said. "Animal people are amazing individuals and they all take this just as serious as we do."

If you know any information that could lead to Schneider finding her lost dog, she wants you to give her a call, at 505-688-8629.
