OHS Asst. Principal Recovering From Assault, Looks Forward to Return

Mark Crissinger Says He's Had 'A Lot of Support' Following Incident at OHS

ODESSA, Texas (Local 2/Fox 24) - An assistant principal continues to recover following a physical altercation with a student last week in Odessa, but the administrator says he's looking forward to getting back to work.

Mark Crissinger suffered injuries after an Odessa High School student reportedly slammed him to the ground last Thursday.

Witnesses captured the incident on video, which has since gone viral. ECISD officials say Crissinger was simply trying to break up a fight that was in progress.

ECISD police arrested the 16-year-old student for aggravated assault on a public servant. Crissinger was treated and released from a local hospital that same day, officials say.

Crissinger spoke to Local 2/Fox 24 on Tuesday and said he had an upcoming doctor's visit as part of his recovery. He also tells us that he has received "a lot of support" following the incident.

Crissinger has not reported to work since the incident, but he remains optimistic about his return as assistant principal at Odessa High School.

The 16-year-old juvenile faces a felony charge for his role in the incident. The teen's identity and certain details surrounding his case have not been made available due to the fact that he is a minor.
