Odessa City Council: No Action Against Long

ODESSA, Texas (Local 2/Fox 24) - Odessa City Council went into executive session to discuss the fate of City Attorney Larry Long.

This is the second meeting in a row, Long's actions have been talked about and for the second meeting in a row, the council decided to take no action.

Some community members attending the meeting spoke out about their frustrations.

"I cant figure it out and I'm sure the general population is wondering, why is he still employed at city hall? He needs to go, like the city manager-out the door like stage door left," said Bob Barr, Concerned Odessa Citizen.

Bob Barr spoke in front of the council and explained why he feels Long needs to be fired.

"Larry Long should leave immediately and the reason for it, is I believe those ladies stories that he molested well not molested them but he made them uncomfortable as a boss," said Barr.

Tuesday night the Odessa City Council consulted with an outside attorney regarding the complaints filed against long.

"A sexual harassment claim was filed against City Attorney Larry Long and the agenda item tonight and the agenda item at a previous meeting were to address that complaint that was filed," said Public Information Officer for the City of Odessa, Andrea Goodson.

Goodson said this is the second sexual harassment claim against Long in the past decade.

She also said if council members feel strongly about the claims, it may show up on another agenda.

"I hate to say this but I think the charges are true," said Barr.

After nearly two hours in executive session the council, once again took no action.

"He has this attitude, the reason why all this happened is he knew he could get away with it," said Barr.

City Attorney Larry Long declined to comment.
